IT for Beginners

This course is aimed at complete beginners to computing and starts with the very basics.  The course includes how to: switch the computer on and off, use the mouse and keyboard, produce a simple letter and other documents, save your work in folders, and covers some basic internet skills.  The course is 10 weeks long, giving you 20 hours tuition in total.

IT for Improvers

'IT Improvers' builds on the skills gained in the Beginners course and covers areas such as how to: send and receive emails, use attachments, save work on memory sticks, use the more advanced features of Word and also covers more advanced internet skills such as online shopping.  The course subject areas vary a little and gives learners the chance to focus on areas they wish to know more about.  The course is 10 weeks long, giving you 20 hours tuition in total.

ECDL Essentials (ITQ Level 1)

ECDL Essentials is an excellent introduction to the world of IT, with units covering the fundamentals of using IT, with a particular focus on the first steps in using a computer, explanations of the internet and email and how they can be used safely and productively.  This course gives learners a Level 1 qualification (equivalent to a D-G grade GCSE).

ECDL Extra (ITQ Level 2)

ECDL Extra builds on the learners initial experience and basic knowledge from Level 1 and improves their understanding of computer applications.  These include word-processing, spreadsheets and presentation software - all of which very useful for the office workplace.  This course gives learners a Level 2 qualification (equivalent to an A-C grade GCSE).

ECDL Advanced (ITQ Level 3)

ECDL Advanced recognises the application of a range of IT user skills and knowledge in the workplace, meeting employer workforce demands. Learners typically register for one module at a time, completing their studies in "bite-size chunks".  The modules include: word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations and 'improving productivity using IT'.  Each module should require around 40 hours of study.
